This nifty jQuery Alert Dialogs script written by Cory S.N. LaViska (http://abeautifulsite.net) allows you to place a moveable jQuery popup box when the window loads. The popup has two buttons asking the user to either click an Agree or Cancel button to proceed. This popup alert box can be handy when you want your website visitors to agree to your Terms & Conditions or Privacy Policy before viewing a particular webpage. If the user clicks Accept, a cookie named MyCookie is saved so the popup will no longer show. Whenever the page is accessed, the cookie is checked and if the cookie does not exist, the popup will appear.

Installation Instructions

Firstly download the confirmation-alert-box-with-cookie.zip file (contains three JavaScript files) and upload the files to your JavaScript (js) folder on your server. Then create a new JavaScript & CSS Toolbox block and call it something like Confirmation Alert Box – JavaScript. Copy and paste the below JavaScript code and enter the relevant information such as URL to the JavaScript files, and the escape URL when the user does not accept the agreement and therefore clicks Cancel. You can also enter the URL to the Terms & Conditions page as well as the Privacy Policy page. When you are happy with the URLs, just click the Save Changes button.

Next create a new JavaScript & CSS Toolbox block calling it Confirmation Alert Box – CSS. Copy and paste the CSS code (shown below) into your new code block, customise the CSS code until your heart’s content, and click the Save Changes button.

Last but not least, you need to assign the page that this code will affect. You can test the function on any page or all pages if you wish. Make sure you again click the Save Changes or Save All Changes button.

Download: confirmation-alert-box-with-cookie.zip

In this video tutorial, you will see a box with a Kezza bee image, from the Kezza bee series of Apple apps created for the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. When you hover over this image, jQuery will kick in and slide the Kezza bee image downwards to reveal a clickable title and short description. Clicking this title will open a new email in your mail browser with the To: and Subject: fields already populated. After hovering off the image, the Kezza bee image will slide back up to its original position. This script can be useful for adding team members in an ‘About Us’ page, with each member having a name title, role and email address.

Ok you are probably visiting this help video page because you have upgraded the CSS & JavaScript Toolbox v.03 to v0.8 and wanted to learn what this error module is all about. In a nutshell, we unfortunately introduced a bug in v0.3 and it occurs when you save a code block. When the code block is saved into the database: any quote, double quote, and back slash characters will have another back slash character added before it. This is what is termed Escaping and is a method of quoting single characters, whereby the escape (\) preceding a character tells the shell to interpret that character literally. For example, using \” gives the double quote character its literal meaning as in:

echo "Hello" # Hello
echo "\"Hello\" ... he said." # "Hello" ... he said.

Your CSS and JavaScript code would still have worked fine since the back slash was removed during output, although this practise was definitely not the right way to go about it, and to add further insult to injury, we have since learned that every time you save your code block in v0.3, the bug would also add another back slash character to the back slash – hope that makes sense.

Our error detection and cleaning system will assist you to remove these additional slash characters. That said, the error system will need your help though, because in some cases it cannot determine whether the back slash character was user-created or bug-created, such as using a back slash for say a \n (new line) or \t (tab). When the system detects actual errors, there is a high probability that it is a bug-created error because these back slash errors typically appear before single and double quotes as in:

script type=/"text/javascript/"

These would most certainly need to be cleaned. If you have previously backed up the code block database, you can restore the code blocks back if you have to, but utilise this as a last resort. Better still is to refresh the page if you feel you may have made a mistake. As long as you haven’t saved the code block, you are not committing the code to the database and refreshing the page will allow you to rescan for errors again. Warnings are different and these may occur when you have two back slash characters together, and thus would need your direction to either delete the back slash manually (or use the Clean up function) or simply leave it as is. Of course you should constantly test the CSS and JavaScript code blocks to make sure your code is working 100%.

On a final note, if you had used the Clean up function, saved your code blocks, and then decide to restore them back, you will not be able to use the detection and clean function. This is because the error system had flagged itself that the Clean up function was already actioned. This is needed for the error system to remove itself from the plugin. If this is the case, you would have to delete problem back slash errors manually and then save the code block for it to take effect.

We do apologise if this has caused you some inconvenience. We have tried our best to make everything as smooth as possible to remedy the issue. Our latest version 0.8 does not have this back slash problem, in fact the plugin was pretty much a full rewrite and has heaps more features. We really hope you will continue to support our CSS & JavaScript Toolbox project, and thanks again.

Wipeout Media and WordPress

The team at Wipeout Media specialises in CMS (Content Management System) websites, which are websites that allow you to add content yourself. These websites have a dashboard ‘backend’ where you can easily add pages and blog posts, update page content, and upload images. You don’t even need to learn website code!! Only basic computer knowledge is needed to manage your website, therefore saving you a lot of money in the long term. We develop websites using the WordPress platform, which is the most popular CMS platform of choice, with nearly 50 million WordPress websites worldwide.

Now if you have heard of WordPress, you may think that it is merely a blogging platform, allowing people to write blog posts and offering not much else. Well that certainly was true when WordPress was conceived back in 2003 – a time when blogging was a growing culture. These days however, WordPress websites allow for a huge array of features including: photo galleries, slideshows, contact forms, online shops, forums, booking systems, membership and newsletter distribution systems, statistics and SEO tools, social network integration, mobile device theming, and the list goes on. :)

If you would like your own WordPress website that is themed to your business brand – including logos, graphics and colours, with features and functionality that compliments your business model and online marketing goals, then please contact the Wipeout Media team for more information.
